Support and referrals are available to those struggling with parenting youth that are gang involved or at risk. Additionally, on-to-on peer support is available for those women facing challenges with abuse and addictions. We also help make referrals for women to longer term counseling or other services and supports. The RESPECT Program offers the Peace Begins at Home Parenting Program, weekly circles where grandmothers, mothers and aunties can come together in a non-judgmental environment to share struggles and strengths when dealing with gang, crime, and/or drug involved family members. The circle is based on peer-support and honors all parenting, whether a parent is currently living with their child or not. At the Peace Circles we encourage all ages of women to attend, from young moms to grandmothers, so that we can all learn from one another’s experience. Finally, we hosts monthly community information sessions where guest speakers address safety issues affecting the neighbourhood. The topics discussed include issues of personal, family or community safety. |
