The West Central Women’s Resource Centre exists to empower women to help themselves, their families and their community to safer, healthier lifestyles. Our home is the diverse West Central neighbourhood of Winnipeg.

Our Vision Our shared vision is for a healthy, sustainable, equitable, just and peaceful community where women's knowledge and experience is valued and respected. Our vision includes women having hope and strength while living out equal social, economic and political rights. 

Our Way of Working We work toward achieving our vision using a Women Centered Approach, informed by the lived experience of the diverse women in our community. We also use the following to guide our work, words and actions: Empowerment Framework - A capacity building framework with 4 stages of empowerment (breaking social isolation, networking, awareness, action). Harm Reduction - Taking steps to reduce harm in people's lies by valuing where they are and helping them move to a place of less harm. Multi-level Approach - Working simultaneously in many spheres (the individual, family, community and systemic). Community Economic Development - Supporting local goods, services, investment, employment, decision making and skill building while promoting neighbourhood sustainability, human dignity and the environment.

Our History The WCWRC started in 1999 as a 3-year project (Women’s Empowerment Project) in response to the high number of women in our neighbourhood living in poverty. Since that time the Centre has grown to offer a variety of support and services to the whole community. The Centre has always been guided and informed by women living in our neighbourhood.

Our Programming and Services While much of our work is designed for women in the West Central Neighbourhood, we also offer programming and services to children and men in our community and women in neighbouring communities. Please see the list of Programs on the left for more information.

Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9:00-4:30

Tuesday 1:30-6:00

Thursdays  CLOSED

Women and children are welcome during all hours of operation.  Men are welcome Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 1:00-4:00 and are invited to use the telephone and Clothing Room.
